The Digit-al Dozen DOES Floral, Day 1: Water Lily Nail Art!

Good evening, readers! It's another nail art week with The Digit-al Dozen and the theme is Floral! Ahhhhhh! If you know me, you realize I hardly ever do floral nail art. I'm not good at it, I can probably count on 2 hands how many floral manis I've ever done. However, I did make a vow to practice more often than I have been. Let's see how the week goes.

My first floral design is water lilies! After seeing Sveta Sanders post THIS awesome tutorial for needle marble swirls a few days ago, I've been itching to try it. After I was semi-successful, my friends told me that my version looked like water so I was able to tie it in with Floral Week by adding some lilies!

The three colors I used for the swirling were all Elevation Polishes! Ceram Sea, Thracian Sea, and Pic du Gar. They all have a squishy, yet very opaque, formula so they worked really well for swirling. Once the swirls were dry, I added some simple lily pads and water lilies.

What do you think? Will you be trying the tutorial I linked above? Thanks so much for reading, come back tomorrow to see the next floral week mani!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Floral, Day 2: Floral Lace Half Moons

Good morning, readers! Floral Week with The Digit-al Dozen continues, and for Day 2 I've stretched the theme a bit. Floral lace shapes for the half moon part of this mani totally count for floral, right?

I was inspired by this mani on instagram by @deanne29  (who added dots to the original design by @Kayleighwaleynails ). Looking at the mani, the hardest part of the design would be the floral lace half moon cut out at the cuticle line. However, I grabbed my trusty Liquid Palisadeand it was a breeze! I'll be putting a quick video on Instagram today of how I did it, and you can see a quick picture step-by-step below as well.

  • To begin, I used Liquid Palisadeand painted the floral cut out shape onto the nail, and then around my nail to protect the skin from the gradient sponging. I let it dry completely.
  • Next, I painted Orly Frolic, Barry M Green Berry, and KBShimmer Hugs and Wishes onto the makeup sponge. I dabbed onto the nails about 4-5 times each, and I rotated the sponge on the next nail so the colors would be in different spots.
  • Once the gradient was opaque enough, I used tweezers and pulled the Liquid Palisadeoff to reveal clean skin and the floral cut out.
  • I used acetone and my cleanup brush from Jolie Polish to get any excess polish off of the skin.
  • I then used a thin nail art brush and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Wallsto carefully paint the floral petal shapes.
  • I used a small dotting tool and OPI My Boyfriend Scales Wallsto add the polka dots.
  • One coat of HK Girl Top Coat was then used to seal it in and help dry the design.
  • Lastly, I added one coat of OPI Matte Top Coatbecause I am obsessed with mattified nail art lately.

Liquid Palisadecreates a water-resistant barrier and blocks places where you don't want polish to stick. Once it is dry, it turns a darker purple and you can paint or sponge right onto it. When you are done applying polish, grab the edge and peel it off. It stretches and takes the polish with it. The small brush made it very easy to do the petal shapes on my nail as well.

In case you don't have instagram here is a little pictorial of Liquid Palisadein action! (These are screen shots of the actual video.)

What do you think of my second floral mani? I've finished all of my designs for this week and can't wait to show them all to you! Thanks so much for reading!!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Floral, Day 3: Cute Spring Flowers!

Good morning, readers! It's Day 3 of Floral Week with The Digit-al Dozen and I've recreated some cute cartoonish flowers from my desk notepad. It may be autumn, but I'm still using a notepad that says Happy Spring! on it. I really loved the flowers and am glad they translated well onto my nails.

Below is a photo of my notepad:

The base color is OPI Who The Shrek Are You? and I've used a ton of creme polishes to create the flowers. OPI Matte Top Coat was used as the final step (after regular top coat because matte top coats always smear my nail art).

What do you think? Thanks so much for reading! Come back tomorrow to see my Day 4 design!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Floral, Day 4: Sketched Flowers!

Good afternoon, readers! For my fourth floral manicure with The Digit-al Dozen, I've been inspired by Meghan from Will Paint Nails For Food. She is a fellow Digit-al Dozen member and I am always in awe of her stunning manicures. She is amazing with florals, and this is my attempt at a similar "sketched floral" type manicure that I've seen her do many times. I sponged some fall colors on a neutral background, with simple sketched flowers on top.

  • I started with three coats of OPI My Vampire Is Buff.
  • Then, I took pieces of a torn makeup sponge and dabbed lightly in random places with OPI Where Did Suzi's Man-go?, OPI Can't Afjörd Not To, and Zoya Jesy.
  • I used a thin nail art script brush and OPI Ice-bergers & Fries to do my simple flowers.
  • HK Girl Top Coat was used to seal it all in.
  • Lastly, a coat of OPI Matte Top Coat added to the "sketched" effect.

What do you think? I am really happy with how these turned out, and they were fairly simple to do. I think I could do more florals in the future if I go more simple. Thanks so much for reading! Come back tomorrow for the final day of Floral Week with The Digit-al Dozen!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Floral, Day 5: Abstract Flowers!

Good morning, readers! It's the final day of Floral Week with The Digit-al Dozen. Have you enjoyed it? I've actually loved it much more than I expected to. It had me step out from my comfort zone so that always helps. This final mani is inspired by the Digit-al Dozen Queen of Florals herself-- Lindsey from Wondrously Polished. I was so excited when I saw her post this Abstract Flowers manicure a couple of weeks ago and it's been on my to-recreate list ever since. I didn't want to completely copy her mani, so I went with a pink color palette.

Although mine look a bit more circular and less floral, I still love how these turned out!
  • I started with a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.
  • Then, I used a small dotting tool and made a dot in the center of the nails with OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana.
  • Then, using a nail art brush and moving from the center outward, I did three petal lines in various OPI pink cremes: Mod About You, Sparrow Me The Drama, Kiss Me I'm Brazilian, Sorry I'm Fizzy Today, and Girls Love Ponies.
  • Then I did HKGirl Top Coat followed by OPI Matte Top Coat.

What do you think? I hope you liked Floral Week with The Digit-al Dozen as much as I have! Thanks so much for reading!

Swatch Saturday: OPI Gwen Stefani Holiday 2014, Part 1!

Good evening, readers! I have the new OPI Gwen Stefani Holiday 2014 Collection to share with you this weekend! There are 18 polishes, so I've decided to split them into two posts. This is part 1, and I am going to call it the reds and purples. There are a lot of these colors for the collection so why not see them all together to pick your favorites? I should have the other half up tomorrow.

OPI announces the launch of 18 new limited edition holiday nail lacquers inspired by No Doubt singer/songwriter and L.A.M.B. designer Gwen Stefani. This seasonal collection includes an assortment of red, maroon, burgundy, and forest green hues, along with shimmer-packed silver, gold and black shades.

“During the holiday season, women adopt a more glamorous beauty look,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Brand Ambassador. “OPI’s 18 new shades are inspired by Gwen’s edgy, sophisticated style. There are several rich, warm reds – Gwen’s signature color – deep, jewel-toned amethyst, garnet and emerald, as well as silver and gold. I recommend wearing these festive nail lacquers to instantly accessorize party dresses and elegant winter-wear.
“Gwen Stefani Holiday for OPI also includes an array of unique glitters in shades of black and white, with iridescent and chrome accents,” adds Weiss-Fischmann. “The holidays are all about indulgence, and these sparkly shades epitomize luxury!”
OPI Fashion A Bow
So busy- all tied-up today loving this bright reddish-orange!
I'm showing three coats below with no top coat.
It has jelly-like sheerness, and at three coats you can still see slight visible nail line.

 OPI What's Your Point-settia?
So what if I think this is the one truly perfect holiday red?
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.
I agree with the tag line, this is my favorite kind of red.

OPI Cinnamon Sweet
Sugar and spice... this deep, warm red is everything nice.
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.

OPI In A Holidaze
I'm dizzy-in-love with this maroon beauty.
I'm showing three coats below with no top coat.
This is squishy and at three coats I can still see some lighter patches.

OPI Red Fingers & Mistletoes
This smooch-worthy red shimmer is holiday-perfect.
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.
Really pretty shimmer!

OPI Just BeClaus
This magnificent maroon came into my life just in the "nick" of time.
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.

OPI Kiss Me - Or Elf!
There's no denying the allure of this amorous red violet.
I'm showing three coats below with no top coat.
Pretty shimmer in direct lighting.

OPI First Class Desires
This mélange of gold and eggplant shimmer is #1 on my wish list.
I'm showing two coats with no top coat.
Another with gorgeous shimmer!

OPI I Carol About You
I just fa-la-la-la-love this deep royal purple!
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.
This was almost a one coater. It has a hidden shimmer as well!

And I did a quick comparison of the 4 most red cremes in the collection for you. Hope this is helpful in deciding your perfect holiday red!

What did you think of the first half of the new OPI Gwen Stefani Holiday 2014 Collection? Which are your favorites? Mine are What's Your Point-settia?, Red Fingers & Mistletoes, Kiss Me- Or Else!, and I Carol About You.  Come back tomorrow to see the non-red/purple half of the collection! Good morning, readers! We had a busy family fun day yesterday so I wasn't able to get this posted when I planned. So, we have an impromptu Swatch Monday post today! If you missed them, go check out the first half of this new OPI Gwen Stefani Holiday 2014 Collectionfrom Saturday! Let's take a look at the other 9 polishes!

OPI Rollin' In The Cashmere
Wooln't you just love wearing this warm, luxurious gold?
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.
There were slight visible brush strokes.

OPI I'll Tinsel You In
Black and white confetti and fine glitter adorn this ornamental glitter.
I'm showing one coat below with top coat over Just BeClaus.
I only had minimal placement of glitter--they mostly spread like you see them.

OPI Christmas Gone Plaid
I sure am plaid I found this tree-mendous forest green.
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.

OPI Snow Globetrotter
Shake up your world with this glitter swirling with white and rainbow flakes.
I'm showing one coat over I Carol About You with top coat.
I had a few glitters to place but it had pretty good coverage.

OPI Love Is Hot And Coal
Turn up the heat with this deep grayish brown.
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.
Very slight visible brush strokes.

OPI So Elegant
Black and chrome confetti add sophisticated drama to this glitter.
I'm showing one coat over What's Your Point-settia? with top coat.

OPI Sleigh Parking Only
Tell the valet to take good care of this exclusive dark burgundy.
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.

OPI Comet In The Sky
Iridescent beams and midnight black create cosmic art in this glitter.
I'm showing one coat over Christmas Gone Plaid with top coat.
I did place a few glitters but not many. The darker base really showcases the iridescent glitters, but the black glitters don't show as well. The look of this topper will change depending on your base color.

OPI Unfrost My Heart
The shimmery cool glamour of this gleaming silver is beyond hot!
I'm showing two coats below with no top coat.

What do you think of the second half of the new OPI Gwen Stefani Holiday 2014 Collection? Which are your favorites? Shockingly, my favorites are the glitters! I will have a couple of comparisons up soon from this collection and previous ones I own so keep an eye on the blog for that. Thanks so much for reading!

The only shade I didn't receive to review is Don't Speak- the 18K gold leaf top coat. You can check that out over at Cosmetic Sanctuary HERE

Dry Brush Nail Art with KBShimmer!

Good evening, readers! I haven't had a chance to show you this mani yet, but I wore it a few weekends ago. I used the grunge/dry brush technique as shown in one of my favorite tutorials by Chalkboard Nails. To switch it up a bit, I did the brush strokes from cuticle to tip and from side to side. I used all KBShimmer creme polishes for this look. There were so many colors used that no nail was the same while using this technique and I love it! It almost has the look of fabric.

  •  I started out with two coats of KBShimmer How You Dune?
  • Then, wiping almost everything off of the brush, I gently dragged the brushes across the nails following the tutorial linked above using the following KBShimmers: Low And Be Bold, Honeydew List, Hugs And Wishes, Radiant Orchid, Let's Not Coral, and You're So Shellfish.
  • I topped it off with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

What do you think of this look? I can see myself wearing this over and over in different color combos! Thanks so much for reading!

Swatches: Alter Ego Gloss48 Exclusives!

Good morning, readers! I have a gorgeous duo from Alter Ego Nail Enamels to share with you today. It is exclusive to Gloss48 and will launch at a discounted price next Wednesday, October 29th at 11am EST. If you don't remember my many review posts in the past on Alter Ego Nail Enamels, all polishes dry to a satin matte finish due to the special base. I really love that, because it's like getting two polishes in one if you decide to add a glossy top coat. Let's take a look!

Are you familiar with Gloss48? If not, it's a site that launches new indie products daily. For the first seven days that the products are on the site, they offer a promotional discount - so you can try new products without breaking the bank. After the launch week, you can still shop an amazing collection of indie beauty at full price.

Alter Ego Rows Her Boat
She rows her boat down a sun dappled spring fed stream, enjoying and admiring the wildlife and foliage only seen from this position! Streams and rivers are not the bright blue like the ocean, they are more blue-green like the base color. Because of that, the sun reflects the gold flecks of color instead of the silver specks that are seen on the ocean.

I'm showing two coats below with and without top coat.
The base is a little thicker during application but it dries down flat quickly when it turns matte. If the polishes are thicker than you prefer, you can add a few drops of rubbing alcohol(and not polish thinner) to thin them. I love the base color with the gold flecks!

(Above: with no top coat. Below: with 1 coat of Alter Ego She Shines top coat)

Look at how the flecks are glowing with the top coat added!

Alter Ego Sold On Gold
Nevermind silver and platinum, this woman is sold on gold! She loves the vivid brilliance of the eye catching shine whether it is shiny, brushed, or matte, and always carries a jewelers loupe to inspect a potential addition to her stash for the required stamp. This is a friendlier colorant than glitter, way easier to remove.

I'm showing three coats below with and without top coat.
This was thinner than Rows Her Boat and less opaque, requiring one more coat. However, I really thought it was beautiful at one coat and think it would be a gorgeous topper over your favorite creme polish! And it complements Rows Her Boat so well!

(Above: without top coat. Below: with one coat of Alter Ego She Shines Top Coat.)

Again with the glowing flecks with shiny top coat!

Here are my simple polka dots to show how well they go together:

What do you think of this duo from Alter Ego Nail Enamels? Don't forget that it is exclusive to Gloss48.comand launches next Wednesday, October 29th at 11am EST. For the promotional week, the duo will retail for $14. After the promo, it will go back to the regular $17.

On Gloss48, new members get $10 off of their first order of $30+.

Thanks so much for reading!!

KBShimmer Spot Sign!

Leopard spot glitter, what?!! I am a huge fan of wearing leopard spot nail art but it certainly takes a while to do a full mani. KBShimmer recently released this awesome new glitter topper called Spot Sign that you can layer over any base to create your own easy leopard print mani! I decided to wear it over my recent Dry Brush Nail Art and the black really popped over the colored base.

Here's what Christy of KBShimmer has to say about this glitter topper:

Like a wild cat ready to pounce, this spotted polish is ready to bring out our wild side. Black leopard spot shaped glitters are accented by black dots, small black hexes and micro holographic sparkle.  1 dabbed on Coat Recommended, Glitter Placement may be needed depending on how many spots are desired and the curve of the nail bed.

 KBShimmer Spot Sign
I'm showing one coat, partially dabbed for leopard spot placement over my dry brush manicure. I've used two coats of KBShimmer Clearly On Top top coat to help seal in the edges of glitter.

What do you think? I think it's so fun and will open up "nail art" to the typical plain polish/glitter wearer.

You can purchase this now at KBShimmer's site below for $8.75. Thanks so much for reading!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Spooky Days, Day 1: Glowing Jack 'O Lanterns (#LLAfterDark)

Good morning, readers! Today is the beginning of an extra Digit-al Dozen nail art week! We really wanted to fit in some Halloween manis this month so some of us are joining in to bring you more Halloween nail ideas before the big day. Today is also this month's Lacquer Legion day with the prompt: After Dark. So I'm combining both prompts and I'm showing my spookiest manicure for the week: Glowing Jack 'O Lanterns! I'm sure you will see plenty of these if you go trick or treating this Halloween!

I started with a white base and then a couple of coats of an unnamed neon orange. Once that was dry, I used OPI Black Onyx to paint some spooky faces and filled in the rest of the nail so the orange was only showing where you would have cut out on the pumpkin. I then applied one coat of HKGirl Top Coat followed by one coat of OPI Matte Top Coat.

The neon was so bright that it appears glowing more in the middle of the cutouts than along the edges where the black touched it. I have no idea why it did that, but am thrilled that's how it worked out!

What do you think? This really didn't take as long to paint as I expected and it's probably my favorite of the manicures I have to show you this week. Thanks so much for reading, and come back tomorrow to see Day 2 of Spooky Days with The Digit-al Dozen!

Would you like to join in with The Lacquer Legion? You can go check out The Lacquer Legion on Facebook for some more info.

Check out what the rest of the ladies have for Day 1 below!

Good morning, readers! I have a really funky manicure to show you for Day 2 of Spooky Days with The Digit-al Dozen! It's not spooky, but fits in with Halloween and I really loved it! I followed this tutorial by AttackedAstoria Nails and am so glad I did. The drips pop over the black base so well.

I started with two coats of Sinful Colors Black On Black. Next, I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls to create the drips. OPI Where Did Suzi's Man-go? and OPI I Just Can't Cope-acabana were used to fill in the appropriate orange and yellow stripes. Lastly, I used one coat of HKGirl Top Coat and OPI Matte Top Coat.

What do you think? I really love how these turned out. Thanks so much for reading! Come back tomorrow for Day 3 of Spooky Days with The Digit-al Dozen!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Spooky Days, Day 3: Fan Brush Mummies!

Good morning, readers! It's Day 3 of Spooky Days with The Digit-al Dozen! I have another "cutesy" Halloween nail art mani for you today and I really loved it. I used a fan brush to add some dirt/age to the "bandages" and I love the extra detail.

  • I started out with 3 coats of OPI My Vampire Is Buff.
  • Once dry, I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys to add some "dirt" to the bandage base. I just swiped back and forth lightly over the base.
  • Once dry, I used OPI Icebergers & Fries to add stripes for where the mummies would peek through the bandages.
  • I used two sizes of dotting tools to add the eyes with white and red cremes.
  • OPI Black Onyx was used to make the bandage lines.
  • HKGirl Top Coat was used to seal in the design.
  • OPI Matte Top Coat was used to mattify the nail art.

What do you think? I don't think I've ever done mummy nails so I'm really digging these. They are definitely not creepy, but I usually go for cute over creepy nail art anyway. Thanks so much for reading!

The Digit-al Dozen DOES Spooky Days, Day 4: Spider Webs!

Good morning, readers! It's Day 4 of Spooky Days with The Digit-al Dozen. I feel like I can't get through a Halloween season without spider web nails. Spiders creep me out all year long, but I still can't deny how fun the webs are to paint. I've been doing them for years and I love how different they can look. This time, I was wearing Pahlish The Final Flower and knew I wanted to use it as a base for spider webs. Elevation Polish Black Ice was a great pairing for the gradient, and the silver spider webs just popped so well.

(Secret: I did these weeks ago because I was so excited about this Digit-al Dozen week. That's why my nails are so much shorter than the rest of the week's posts.)

I added the Elevation Polish Black Ice gradient to different parts of the nails and used that to guide where I would start the spider webs. Pure Ice Silver Star is my go-to silver metallic and it works so well for free hand nail art. I topped everything off with HKGirl Top Coat.

What do you think? Which nail is your favorite? Thanks so much for reading, come back tomorrow for the final day of Spooky Days with The Digit-al Dozen!

Good morning and Happy Halloween!! I have my final Spooky Days manicure for you today. Have you enjoyed this week? This look isn't for everyone, it's kind of icky with the color combo but I really wanted to try grunge nails with Halloween colors so here we are. Maybe Shrek goes zombie? I used this tutorial by Chalkboard Nails to create this look.

  • I started out with a few coats of OPI Who The Shrek Are You?
  • Then, using the tutorial above, I added OPI Funky Dunkey, OPI In My Back Pocket, and OPI Black Onyx.
  • I added OPI Matte Top Coat and it added some extra smearing while mattifying the look.

As I said before, I'm not completely in love with this manicure, but I'm glad I tried it. Thanks so much for reading. I hope you all have a fabulous and safe Halloween!

Good afternoon, readers! I can't believe it's November already! I know this post is a little late, but I really wanted to show you what I wore on my nails for Halloween yesterday. I did a sneak peek on Instagram last night, but here are some more pictures for your viewing pleasure!

I was one of the lucky winners in Ashley Is PolishAddicted's 3 Year Blogiversary Giveawayand I won two gorgeous custom polishes: Darling Diva Caffeine Junkie and Elevation Polish Fervent. The base of this mani is Elevation Polish Fervent. I added some spider webs in a "half moon mani" shape using Illamasqua Seance. It looks like there are some similar colored flakies in Fervent and I love how they look together.

The sparkles really glow in person, unfortunately the light box diffuses a lot of the light.  I'm so fortunate to have won it. A big thank you to Ashley Is PolishAddicted and Lulu from Elevation Polish for this amazing prize polish! Thanks so much for reading!
